Balkan University Press is delighted to share the publication of the book "Paranın Yolculuğu: Üsküp ve Kratova’da Basılan Madeni Para Koleksiyonu" authored by Daniela Nikolova. The book is published in collaboration with the Yunus Emre Institute Skopje. 

This book examines the numismatic collections preserved in the Museum of Macedonia, focusing on the coins minted in Skopje and Kratovo during the Ottoman period. The research highlights the cultural and historical significance of these coins and fills gaps in the written historical records. Through interdisciplinary analyses, it emphasizes the importance of preserving and studying numismatic materials. While these coins reflect the role of Macedonia in the early Ottoman period, they are also important for understanding the broader socio-economic and political context of the Balkans. As part of the Ottoman material culture and bearing universal value, this study provides a solid foundation for future historical and cultural research.

The book is published both in Turkish and Macedonian. The book is available online at JSTOR and the EBSCO platform and is available at the Library of the International Balkan University.

The author, Daniela Nikolova, is a historian, curator, and advisor at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence. She graduated in History from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje in 1990 and earned a master’s in 2021 from the Institute of National History with a thesis on Ottoman Coinage in Macedonia. She began her career in 1991 at the National Museum of Macedonia, focusing on the Ottoman period, research, and exhibitions. From 2018 to 2023, she served as director of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence, where she improved museum accessibility, education, and international cooperation. She contributed to establishing the Military Museum in Skopje in 2006 and coordinated Macedonia’s participation in UNESCO’s Culture – Bridge and Development program in 2011. An active researcher, she has published extensively and served on editorial boards. Nikolova continues dedicated to advancing museum, scholarly, and educational initiatives.
