Balkan University Press is delighted to announce the publication of the book "Bir Ses Yaratan Kudret - Doğumunun 140. Yılında Yahya Kemal Beyatlı" edited by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Samsakci.

Yahya Kemal is, in one word, “The Poet of Our Civilization.” In his poems and prose writings, one can always feel the fresh breath of a community, a power that, for centuries, has made its presence felt in various regions of the world, achieving victories not only on the material plane but also in the realms of meaning and aesthetics.

Born in the last quarter of the 19th century in Skopje, which was then an Ottoman town, Yahya Kemal briefly experienced Istanbul before moving to Paris. There, he studied history and politics, but through his readings, he deeply grasped the essence of Turkish intellect and taste. In 1912, he returned to Istanbul with a fresh perspective on thought and poetry. He quickly became a center of attraction with his intellectual and aesthetic appeal.

In fact, he was the ideal Turkish poet and intellectual, awaited since the Tanzimat era—a figure who combined a Western attention to detail and perspective with an Eastern sensitivity and spirituality. The perspectives in his poetry and the depth of observations and interpretations in his prose continue to make Yahya Kemal a vital reference and source even today.

The work before you, Bir Ses Yaratan Kudret: Doğumunun 140. Yıldönümünde Yahya Kemal Beyatlı (A Power That Created a Voice: On the 140th Anniversary of Yahya Kemal Beyatlı’s Birth), consists of writings that examine both his place and significance in his own time and studies that highlight the sharp and nuanced perspectives that shed light on today.

This book is part of the "Akademik Çalışmalar" book series published by BUP.
