Book Description
The issue of reading, namely academic reading in a foreign language i.e. English is not a new term. However, very little has improved over the years. Learners as well as teachers encounter many issues and difficulties, either during learning (as students) or during teaching reading as a skill (teachers). A very relevant question ishow to promote effective reading comprehension with our students and why? The present study therefore attempts to facilitate the reading process for both teachers and students and help in the improvement of language acquisition as well. Another aim of this research is to further examine different ways of reading, to implement them and monitor their success in the classroom and also to evaluate the effect each manner of reading has upon language acquisitionand of course reading comprehension. The approaches will be applied with university students of the approximately same level of English proficiency (pre-intermediate- intermediate) The goal will be finding “the best”, most effective approach needed nowadays in a context where English is learned as a foreign language (EFL).The study provides the theoretical and practical aspectson both teaching and learning. It provides a preface and also a brief background of the work at the beginning. In chapter 1, it introduces the traditional approaches to reading, proceeding with more advanced reading approaches and text selection in chapter 2. Chapter 3 provides research methodology and introduces the process. The results are presented in chapter 4. Chapter 5 provides the discussion of the results and chapter 6 provides the overall conclusion. Chapter 7 provides the reader with limitations of the study and chapter 8 provides future recommendations. The last chapter in the book, namely chapter 9, remains as a chapter by itself as it presents a series of different publications in journals on the issue of reading. It serves as evidence of the ongoing research and development and on the persistence of finding a solution to the issue. Hoping that the insights, experiences and methodology are of great help to teachers in North Macedonia and the region.
