Book Description
This study analyses four contemporary novels published by acclaimed female writers Joyce Carol Oates and Elif Shafak. Serving as the cornerstone of the analysis, these novels reveal the portrayal of women as the 'Other' within phallocentric societies and patriarchal families. The study concentrates on selected works by the authors: "The Bastard of Istanbul" and "Gaze" by Elif Shafak, and "We Were the Mulvaneys" and "Rape: A Love Story" by Joyce Carol Oates. Through these narratives, the research investigates the objectification of women, their transformation into possessions without prior consent, and their ongoing surveillance by men.
