Biography
Daniela Nikolova is a historian, curator, and advisor at the National Institution Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence.
Nikolova graduated from the Department of History at the Faculty of Philosophy, “Ss. Cyril and Methodius University” in Skopje in 1990. In 2021, she obtained her master’s degree at the “Institute of National History – Skopje” with the thesis “Ottoman Coinage in Macedonia from the 14th to the 17th Century.”
She began her professional and work activities in 1991 as an employee at the National Institution Museum of Macedonia, serving as a curator in the Historical Department, responsible for the museum collection “Macedonia in the Ottoman Period.” Her work focused on the development of museum documentation, research, exhibition activities, maintenance and promotion of the museum display, publishing activity, cooperation with professional staff, and international collaboration.
From 2018 to 2023, she was the director of the National Institution Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence. In this position, Nikolova made significant contributions to advancing museum education, accessibility, and the opportunity for every visitor to freely access the museum, enhancing cooperation with European partner institutions and professional associations, exchanging experiences, knowledge, and ideas, opening opportunities for participation in joint projects, improving the capacities of museum professionals, as well as monitoring and directly applying European cultural policies.
In 2006, she participated in the establishment of the Military Museum in Skopje.
In 2011, she became the coordinator for Macedonia at the UNESCO Regional Bureau based in Venice, for the program Culture – Bridge and Development.
Between 2002 and 2024, as part of her scholarly research activity, she published numerous editions, articles, and catalogues both domestically and abroad. Within publishing activities, she served as editorial secretary of the first issues of the museum journal Numismatist, and was a member of the editorial board of Museum Proceedings, no. 3 (2009), published by the National Institution Museum of Macedonia – Skopje.
Her professional development in both museum work and scholarly professionalism continues, as Nikolova remains committed to further advancement, building, and promotion of museum, scientific, and educational activities.
